Hints for Using Philips Digital Recorder

Charging Battery

To charge the battery:
  1. Connect the digital recorder to a computer USB port.
  2. The recorder will automatically turn on.
  3. After a five-second count-down, the recorder will connect to the computer.
  4. The display on the recorder will indicate "Charging..."
  5. When the display indicates "Fully charged", open windows explorer (not internet explorer) and look for a drive with the name "Philips GoGear ViBE". Right-click on this drive and select "eject."
  6. You may now remove the fully-charged recorder from the USB port.

Recording

  1. Turn the recorder on by sliding the switch on the left side of the device down toward the base.
  2. After the device turns on, it will display "Music" and a picture of musical notation.
  3. Press the down arrow on the four-way rocker switch located on the face of the device 4 times in a row until it displays "Recording" with a picture of a microphone.
  4. Press the right arrow on the four-way rocker switch located on the face of the device 2 times in a row until the unit displays "VOICE00N.MP3" and shows a counter with elapsed time. (The "N" in VOICE00N.MP3 will vary depending on how many previous recordings are still on the device). The unit is now recording.
  5. To finish recording, simply slide the switch on the left side of the device down toward the base (again) to turn the unit off. It will automatically stop, display "Bye", and save the recording.

Saving Recorded Files

  1. Connect the digital recorder to a computer USB port.
  2. The recorder will automatically turn on.
  3. After a five-second count-down, the recorder will connect to the computer.
  4. In the windows file explorer look for a new memory device with the name "Philips GoGear ViBE". Assume for the sake of illustration below that the device is assigned drive letter "E:".
  5. Recording files will be found under the folder E:\Recordings\Voice\VOICE00N.MP3 where the "N" is a sequential number which depends on the number of recordings.
  6. Copy the file to a location on your computer's hard drive or email the file (right click on the MP3 file and choose "Send to... Mail recipient".
  7. If you email the file as an attachment to Tony, then he can put it up on the church website. Or you can just save all the recordings to be taken care of later on. If you choose to save them on the recording device, it might be a good idea to make a copy of each recording on your computer too just in case. Either way, it is very helpful to keep track several of several pieces of information pertaining to each recording: 1) the date the recording was made; 2) a suggested title; 3) the biblical address of the related passage (e.g., John 1:1-12) where it applies. This saves a lot of time when putting the recording on our website.
  8. After copying the recording to your computer hard drive (or sending it off in email), you can optionally delete the original recording file from the recorder. If you do this each time, then each new recording file will be given the name "VOICE001.MP3". If you don't delete them, you'll wind up with "VOICE001.MP3", "VOICE002.MP3", and so on.
